Val di Tures Valle Aurina
Val di Tures Valle Aurina (German: Tauferer Ahrntal) is the biggest secondary valley in Val Pusteria (German: Pustertal, Ladin Val de Puster), the last “piece” of Italy to be “inserted” in Austria. Valle Aurina starts with the mountain resort of Luttago and it hosts one of the best conserved and most charming natural parks in South Tyrol, the Vedrette Ries- Aurina natural park (Italian: Parco Naturale delle Vedrette di Ries- Aurina, German: Naturpark Rieserferner-Ahrn), which continues till the eternal snows. Val di Tures e Aurina is the last South Tyrol valley to be discovered by mass tourism; the local dialect and its traditions are very well preserved here. Even if the villages are small and they seem to be isolated, Valle Aurina offers a lot from the culture point of view: traditional feasts, museums, castles…culture fans will love this valley!
Why is the Saint Peter’s church was built on a rock
Valle Aurina is also very rich in history and legends; there’s one which explains why is the St. Peter’s church located such a particular position. The Saint Peter village inhabitants decided to dedicate a church to their saint near the Griesserhof. Building works started, but they went on sluggishly because bricklayers, builders and foremen were often sick. One day the Saint Peter inhabitants saw a swallow bringing blood-stained splints in her mouth and put them on a rock. As a consequence, it was decided to build the church in that point.
